Gitga’at Txalgiv First Nations and Cetacea Lab are premiering an educational documentary series on the importance of humpback whales in their ecosystem and bringing awareness to the residents about the dangers whales could face soon.

Cetacean Lab Premiere

  • Cetacea Lab and Gitga’at Txalgiv First Nations have been cooperating for a decade.
  • Gitga’at Txalgiv First Nations and Cetacea Lab have decided to premiere a series of small documentary videos.
  • They highlight the importance of the humpback whale’s ecosystem and educate how fragile whales can become when noise pollution is introduced.

The event

  • Kitimat residents have been invited to the premiere.

About the documentaries and the research team

  • The documentary series is aimed to increase education around the humpback whale population at the Kitimat coastal region.
  • Herman Meuter, a humpback whale researcher at Cetacea Lab, has decided to promote the premiere of the videos.
  • the people of Kitimat are invited to learn about the various important ecosystem changes the whales are going through due to the increasing climate change.
  • Herman Meuter has been a researcher in Hartley Bay for more than a decade, working directly with the Gitga’at Txalgiv First Nations.
  • Cetacea Lab is part of the North Coast Cetacean Society.
